My professional license is Marriage and Family Therapy (NY) and I have been in private practice since 2001. I am the Founder and Executive Director of Midtown Marriage and Family Therapy, PC, a group psychotherapy practice and training site for Marriage and Family Therapists in New York City.
As a practice, we specialize in long-term depth work with clients healing from trauma, assault, abuse, family of origin dynamics, relationship struggles, anxiety, depression, anger and stress. Our approach has a warm, empathic, and humanistic style which meets clients where they are and safely guides them on their journey of finding their authentic selves.
My creative passion has led me to create this Therapy Blog for Midtown MFT titled OurGuideforGrowth.com. It is a space where my voice, as well as the voice of my staff and close affiliates, is present in blog style articles, to give you a glimpse into the way we practice, and our approach and beliefs about life, love, human nature, healing, etc. It is still in development and growth and I’m excited to see where it goes. We have opened it up to trusted colleagues within our therapeutic community to provide for a holisitic approach to healing.
My theoretical approach is an integration of psychodynamic, humanistic, holistic, and systemic theories. Through long term, in-depth psychotherapy, I create safety within the room so couples can drop their defense structures and protections, speak authentically about what they feel, and really be heard, sometimes for the first time.
My belief is that given the safety of the therapeutic process, clients will emerge, and show their authentic selves’. It is this process where couples learn to validate the others experience and become responsive to one anothe’s needs. Restored connection comes from accepting each others experiences and healing the emotional wounds that have prevented them from truly hearing one another. Once clients can connect in this way, they use their own inherent strengths to make the changes they need. They become compassionate and responsive to the other.
I have focused the majority of my clinical career treating anger in relationships. I work with individuals, couples, families, and groups, to break the destructive, reactionary patterns of anger, to provide relief, and hope for growth and change. I show my clients healthy ways to voice their needs and wants and how to heal from past pain.
I am a New York State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and the President of the Metro Chapter of the New York Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in both Psychology and the Criminal Justice, from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Hofstra University.
